From October 3 through November 18, Wormfarm Institute will host an art exhibition at the Woolen Mill Gallery, located at 28 E Main Street (2nd Floor) in downtown Reedsburg, featuring more than 50 artists who have participated in Wormfarm’s programs over the last 25 years.
The show’s title — Produced and Attracted: Wormfarm Celebrates 25 Years of Artists in Reedsburg and Beyond — is taken from a City of Reedsburg Intensive Survey commissioned in 1984; the chapter on Fine Arts begins: "Reedsburg has not produced or attracted many artists.”
“I was struck by the irony of this statement,” said artist and Wormfarm board member Catherine Schwalbe, who is curating the exhibition. “We hope to show how much the arts have thrived in the area, and we have received an incredible response from the artists in Wormfarm’s orbit — from sculpture, painting, prints, multimedia, textiles, interactive works, and poetry.”
Some participants are former residents from Wormfarm’s foundational artist residency program, where each growing season, artists engage in life on a working farm. Others were commissioned to create temporary, site-responsive works in farm fields over 10 years of the Farm/Art DTour.
