To
help strengthen community pride and highlight the
creative talents of local artists, the Wormfarm Institute
facilitates the creation and installation of local
history based murals through the collaborative effort
of professional artists and local volunteers. Engaging
a diverse group of citizens in a hands-on creative
project that arises from the stories of its past deepens
the participants' appreciation for community, celebrates
a sense of place, and gradually infuses new life into
the community at large. Murals undertaken so far include
Woolen Mill, from agriculture to industry,
and Rails to Trails, history of the railroad
and 400 bike trail.

Woolen
Mill
Completed in
2002, the mural was installed on the side of the old
woolen mill facing the Baraboo River in downtown Reedsburg.
The mill, once powered by the river, transformed agricultural
products into industry, helping Reedsburg become a
thriving town "full of ginger and hustle."

Rails
to Trails
Completed
in 2003, this 18' x 70' mural is located along the
bike trail in downtown Reedsburg. The railroad holds
an important place in Reedsburg's history as it helped
build the town and enabled industries to thrive. The
current bike trail does the same for what is now the
world's largest industry tourism.
